Plainfield is a welcoming community where a historic downtown and growing neighborhoods share the same hometown spirit. Settlers’ Park, Lake Renwick, Route 59, local school pride, and one of the area’s oldest buildings give residents plenty of stories and places to claim as their own.

The Plainfield Mug began as a passion project for the community where I grew up. I wanted to draw the places and details that made my hometown recognizable, then offer the finished mug somewhere that felt genuinely connected to local life.
I approached Kacie at Krema Coffee about carrying it exclusively, and she was thrilled. She later asked me to create mugs for Krema’s other communities as well, opening the door to an exciting series of collaborations. It has been so good working with Kacie, Michael, and their staff. We have created both mugs and 40-ounce tumblers featuring my artwork, and the response has continued to be wonderful.
The runner is the most personally meaningful element on the Plainfield Mug because I ran cross-country during high school in Plainfield. It is a small drawing that holds a very specific part of my own story.
The story behind the mug
Ashley grew up in Plainfield, so this design began with places and memories she already knew personally.
Krema Coffee House partnered with Ashley to create a hometown mug for the community gathered around its downtown shop.
Ashley gathered Plainfield architecture, history, recreation, and school traditions into individual hand-drawn studies.
The drawings were refined and arranged into a wraparound composition made for the curved mug surface.
The Herald-News and Patch shared how the Plainfield Mug connected Ashley’s hometown roots, local art, and Krema Coffee.

The creative process
I drew Historic Downtown Plainfield, Plainfield Halfway House, Route 59, and Settlers’ Park as individual pieces before bringing them together. Their different shapes and stories gave me the rhythm for a wraparound composition that feels layered, personal, and specific to Plainfield.
